Russell Allen was born on May 5, 1986 in Upland, California. He played high school
football at Vista High where he was named San Diego County defensive player of the
year by the San Diego Union-Tribune, the North County Times and CIF. He was also a
key component in leading the team at Vista to consecutive Division I championships.
Russell went on to play linebacker for San Diego State University. Russell ranked third
in San Diego State single-season history in tackles by a junior. He was also their top
tackler in 2007 and would be the only non-senior team captain that same year.
On April 26, 2009, Russell was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Jacksonville
Jaguars. Russell was one of only two undrafted rookies to make opening day roster for
the Jacksonville, and one of only three rookies to play in all 16 games (staring in five). He
was also named starting weakside linebacker in the 2009 NFL season.
Russell, at 6'3" 230 lbs and benching 225 lbs 24 times at his pro day, is bringing some
serious strength and speed with him to the Jaguars' team.
